AI Practical Applications: Shifting Shapes, Expanding Audiences
Abstract
In the ever-changing landscape of our search-driven digital world, where audiences seek novel experiences and expect instant gratification —or, more accurately, instant finding, films don’t end with the final cut and art doesn’t rest. Or, they shouldn’t.
The emergence of AI offers creators a unique opportunity: to breathe new life into their existing works and expand their audiences by reimagining their stories from isolated experiences into traveling interconnected narratives. While traditional transmedia (e.g., film to novel, game) helps adapt stories across different media formats, it is often inaccessible to many independents. AI, however, provides a more accessible avenue for reimagining, restructuring, repurposing.
By leveraging common AI tools, creators can shift shapes, reimagine one art form into another within the same medium (e.g., film to music video, poems to songs). This opens up new frontiers for cinematic remixes, allowing filmmakers and artists to revive old stories and reach new audiences. This gives transmedia a new twist or a new subgenre and a new form of interpretation.
By showcasing three practical applications, this essay examines how AI can be applied in story rediscovery as a strategy for cultural preservation and revitalization, and highlights key elements that define evolving narratives within the context of search economy.
